What Are You Reading This Summer?

It’s summer time and you know what that means: SUMMER READING PROGRAM! Beginning June, 7th, you can sign up at any IMCPL library and start earning points for reading! Then redeem your points for neat prizes like Silly Bands (5 points) or a Monskey (100 points)! Need more info? Click here.

Want to do more? Sign up for the Reading Giants program. Teens, in grades 6-12, will earn 50 points for every 15 minutes spent reading aloud to other children in the library. Once you fill up your Reading Giants point card and write an essay describing your volunteer experience, you’ll be entered in a gift card drawing.
Now the fun part: START READING! Don’t know where to start? Here’s what teens around the city are recommending:

Maximum Ride

Maximum Ride by James Patterson (FIC PAT), recommended by Grace:

Maximum Ride is a great book.  I got it for my birthday just a couple days ago.  My best friend Carly gave it to me.  If you decide to read it, I recommend it to people about 10 or older.  “There’s a bit of blood guts and glory in it but it is still good.” my friend said.   James Patterson is a good author.

 Thirst No. 1

Thirst No. 1 by Christopher Pike (TEEN FIC Pik), recommended by Kylie:

This book was the most elaborate literature I have ever read. It felt like I was really there, by Alisa Perne/Sita’s side. I loved It!!!!!! I just started no. 2 and I hope it is just as good!
Peace Out.

Simply Divine by Jacquelin Thomas (TEEN FIC THO), recommended by Alexus:

Simply Divine
simply divine is about a girl named divine who has got it all the clothes, shoes, friends, and the most famous mom/singer. her dad is horrible. she calls her dad jerome instead of calling him dad. her mom and dad are on drugs and her father is cheating on her mother and abusive. it was the awards night so her mom, dad and her showed up. After jerome left to go somewhere but it turns out he killed his second wife because they were fighting over something stupid and he had a son that was just born and the son was in the room. jerome has been in and out of the court house many times but never went to jail but this time he is going and divines mom is going to rehab to get better. that leaves divine to go to live with her uncle and his family who she has never met. so she says she hates but she has no choice but once you get into the book there are SOME sunny days ahead for Divine.

    Cat Among the Pigeons

Cat Among the Pigeons by Julia Golding (jFIC GOL), recommended by Flo:

this book has a good plot and it has the always needed love interest and a good sense of suspension and you are always looking forward to the next page.

Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports (FIC PAT) by James Patterson, recommended by Sar Bear:

Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports
i really loved this book so interesting. Ya know i wanted the first 2 books but they were late so i read the 3rd one first it was awesome!!!! As a amateur artist/book writer myself i love reading the last book in a series and knowing everything they are talking about. No offense harry potter. Or its fans.
Another book i would love to comment on is twilight i know everyone is insane and stephanie meyer is a very good artist seeing how everyone has run out of original ideas therefore giving me readers block syndrome at the moment. Well anywho i think some of u need to calm down also although i love seeing things being turned into movies cause it makes people my age love to read more it ruins my imagination of the character so sometimes i wonder should they make books into movies?

The Mysterious Benedict Society

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart (jFIC STE), recommended by Kylie:

Now THIS is a good book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, mysteries, problem solving, and surprises. Although I only read it in a night, (I’m a speed reader) It is a fair sized book. (400-550 Pages) Also try the sequels.

New Moon

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (TEEN FIC MEY), recommended by Alexus:

its the best book you will ever read. if you have seen the movie don’t spoil it for others. jacob, bella, edward. you just won’t believe what happens in this book. from jacob in the wolf pack to edward asking bella to marry him. there are some parts when jacob has moments with bella.its amazing. once you read this book i promise you that you won’t regret and it won’t be a waste of your time. so read the book then go see the movie there will be some differences. after you read new moon then read ‘ECLIPSE’ you will love the twilight series

Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (TEEN FIC MEY), recommended by Cody:

I really enjoyed this book; the action, the romance, and even the dramatic feeling of all of the characters. However, I didn’t enjoy the characters point of views. I personally thought that edward should have had a book of his own to show his perspective of the issues or problems going on. But besides that i really enjoyed the book! :) From the truth of my eyes and my heart.

Spy Goddess 2: To Hawaii with Love

Spy Goddess 2: To Hawaii with Love by Michael Spradlin (TEEN FIC SPR), recommended by Ireisy:

it was a very good book with lots of adventure.

When Writers Write by Kathleen MacDonald (808.0427), recommended by Alexus:

i love this book it the best thing ever you can find this book on the fifth floor at the central library downtown.
