Happy Thanksgiving this week from the Indianapolis Public Library!

First things first, we’re closed this Thursday on Thanksgiving Day, and we close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the day before. If you need to renew materials, look up some cool in one of our databases, download free music or ebooks, our web branch at www.imcpl.org is open 24/7 to serve your needs.

Now on to the holiday. If the thought of gathering around a table with your relatives drives you bonkers (especially if you sit at the little kids table), maybe it’s time to do something a little different this Thanksgiving. There are several opportunities for you to volunteer over the weekend, here’s just a few.

Gleaners Food Bank – Help with serving Thanksgiving dinners to the homeless or to other drives. Contact information: 3737 Waldemere Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46241
(317) 925-0191

Mozel Sanders Foundation – Call 317) 636-7985 or click here.

You could always try a local religious organization, several are offering dinners or other help for needy families at this time.

Finally, if the volunteer bug bites you harder than just for the weekend, try VolunteerMatch.org.

If you know of someone who needs a Thanksgiving dinner, check out this Indy Star feature on free Thanksgiving meals.

Hoping your Thanksgiving is the best,
