Read for My Summer Free Online Reading – Dinosaurs!

WeGiveBooks3Dinosaurs

Read for My Summer is We Give Books’ free online summer reading program!

Each week We Give Books will highlight a special book for you and your child to read online, along with fun activities and reading tips to make them come to life, including custom activities from ReadWriteThink.org. Get started now!

Read for My Summer Week #3

Ages 0 to 3

Discover huge and gentle plant eaters, and small and fierce meat eaters, in this week’s book for children up to age 3, Let’s Look: Dinosaurs. The Let's Look series uses colorful images, simple text labels, and fun "I spy" games to introduce curious preschoolers to the world. Then, visit our program page to find a dinosaur coloring page and instructions for making your very own dinosaur fossil.

Ages 4 to 7

Travel to the Sahara Desert with Josh Smith, real-life archeologist, and his crew of intrepid dinosaur hunters in our pick for the 4-7 age group this week, The Big Dinosaur Dig.  Read about how they face fierce sandstorms and, later, the joy of discovering a new species of dinosaur! After you read, become a young archeologist with an activity from ReadWriteThink and play some dinosaur games!

Ages 8 to 10

This week’s book for the 8-10 age group, Dinosaur Detectives, is an introduction to paleontology that weaves together facts about fossil hunting with fictionalized first-person accounts from dinosaur detectives. When you have finished reading, visit the Read for My Summer page for some tips on how to draw a T-Rex and become a dinosaur word detective with an activity from ReadWriteThink.

Thanks for continuing to read with us! Stay tuned for more summer reading next week!

2013-2015 AISLE Read Alouds Too-Good-To-Miss

AISLEReadAloudsRead Alouds Too-Good-To-Miss is a project of the Association of Indiana School Library Educators (AISLE). Each year, a committee of media specialists, public librarians, classroom teachers, reading teachers, principals, bookstore operators, and/or university faculty members is formed to develop five read-aloud lists: one for primary age students, one for upper elementary, one for middle school students, one for high school students, and an ageless. There is also a Buried Treasures list for 2013-2015, for books that are a bit older but warrant mention for their outstanding read-aloud qualities. The lists are publicized and distributed to Indiana schools to encourage sustained reading and oral sharing of literature among teachers and students.

The ultimate purpose of the Read-Aloud Books Too Good To Miss program is to promote a love of reading and books and to instill and nurture lifelong reading habits in Indiana students.
