The Spades Park Branch will have its regular book discussion in August, and I’ll be listing all the August discussions in the next post, but right now we have to focus on the Bundren family.
On Fridays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., beginning August 10th (check the Calendar of Events for skipped days), Facilitator Anja Saak, trained by The Reader Organisation, (I’m not misspelling that, it’s a British enterprise) will read aloud from William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying. Others may read, too, if they wish, and discussion will be interspersed.
I plan to be in Michigan on August 10th, so I’ll miss the first session, but I’m reading ahead, hoping to attend after that. The idea of being at Spades Park, listening to someone speak aloud the thoughts of Darl and Anse and Dewey Dell and Vardaman and, on her deathbed, Addie Bundren, is strangely exciting. Decades have passed since I last read about this family and their journey.
There will be refreshments! In case you were wondering.
If you’re curious, there’s more about the reading group idea at http://thereader.org.uk/get-into-reading/. Anja Saak is a Spades Park regular, so she’s not making the journey from Britain each Tuesday to read to us. But I’m nevertheless quite grateful to her, and ready to embark, even if I’m going to be a week late.
