Two Poems by Aracelis Girmay
April 26, 2012 by Reader's Connection
National Poetry Month is almost gone, and I´m just now doing something about it.
This marks my first posting of a poem whose title is a punctuation mark.
“&” and “Noche de Lluvia, San Salvador” both appear in Aracelis Girmay´s collection Kingdom Animalia (©2011) and are reprinted by permission of BOA Editions, Limited.
I’ve never done much to explicate these poems, but if the Anne Sexton reference confuses you, look at this photograph. If the Crazy Legs reference confuses you, watch this ancient YouTube video. Break dancer Richard Colón (aka Crazy Legs) is the one in the red pants.
