Meet the Branch Manager

Rodney FreemanHi, I'm Rodney Freeman, branch manager of the Spades Park Branch. One of my favorite books is Native Son by Richard Wright. I also enjoy reading graphic novels, watching movies, listening to 90's hip-hop, and spending time with family and friends. Stop by and see me—I'll be happy to show you what we have to offer at Spades Park Branch. |
About Spades Park Branch
Spades Park Library is one of the two remaining Carnegie libraries in the IndyPL system. The building is in the Italian Style with oriental brick and a red tile roof, on land donated by Michael H. Spades. It was formally dedicated on March 22, 1912.
In 1987 the library celebrated 75 years as well as the completion of a $610,000+ restoration project. While the original arrangement of the first floor was maintained as well as all the interior woodwork, new shelving, new furniture for the staff and public, and new public and staff restrooms were included in the renovation. The 7,500 square-foot building was made handicap accessible with the addition of an elevator going to the second floor auditorium. The original circulation desk woodwork was restored and a portion of the original tin ceiling located in the lobby was cleaned and repainted. A fireplace was refurbished with teal marble tiles and gas logs. A painting donated to the branch as part of the Federal Art Project Paintings titled "Leaving the River Trail", painted by Delmas McConnell, was also restored.
