Dr. Spartacus Wilde is super handsome, super athletic, super strong, super smart and has super gadgets. What a fun guy to have for a dad! He’s like Indiana Jones and the Dad from the Spy Kids movies all rolled into one. 12 year-old Brian and 10 year-old Wren are Dr. Wilde’s lucky kids. To be a Wilde is to love adventure and danger. The kids’ house is even set up for adventure with slides and zip lines, advanced computer equipment and more.

Julian Rodriguez has had it with his mission on earth. “Outrageous! That is the only word that can possibly describe the treatment I have received on this pathetic little planet!…For eight long years I have been disguised as an Earth juvenile. I have never complained, despite the mistreatment, deprivation, insults, and disrespect I have endured at the hands of these primitive life-forms. But this is the last straw!” Yes, he just can’t stand another day of standardized tests, carrot stick snacks and no cartoons. This time, his maternal unit (mother) has gone too far. She has actually insisted that he “dispose of a large canister filled with humanoid refuse.”  Yes, now she’s really done it, his spaceman temper is really hot – she’s demanded that he take out the trash! While their rambling space station home is being renovated, Art, Myrtle and their 4 million year-old space alien Mom accept an invitation to a vacation resort located out in the far reaches of the universe.  The resort, it’s guests and the resort’s owner are not at all what they first appear.  Creepy attack puppets, aliens disquised as hats that attach to your head and control your every Larklightthought, a maniac evil genius bent on dominating the universe…the usual for Art and Myrtle.  Luckily, their favorite space pirate Jack Havock is at the resort too, undercover and ready for action.  If you haven’t read Larklight, read it first, then read Starcross – you will be happy to know that a third book called Mothstorm is on the way (Oct. 14, 2008), and that the series has been optioned for a movie. The True Meaning of SmekdayEarth has been invaded by the Boov and 11 year-old Gratuity is not pleased.  Her mother is missing and there have been some serious changes going on.  All Americans are being forced to relocate to “Human Reserves” in Florida.  “One state for three hundred million people. There were going to be some serious lines for the bathrooms.”

Resistant to taking Boov transport, Gratuity grabs her cat named “Pig”, packs her rebellious spirit and hops in the family car to head to Florida and find her mother.   “…I decided to drive instead, and got shot at, and later went over an embankment because the highways had been destroyed.  Pig and I hung out in a convenience store, and I hid from A Boov name j.Lo, but then I trapped him, and let him go when he promised to fix my car.  Which now hovers instead of rolls.  And has big hoses and fins.  Everybody on the same page?  Great.”  A non-stop cross country road trip with a cat and a misfit alien, who has his own reasons for befriending a human girl who is about to save the world.
