Rick Riordan’s The Heroes of Olympus Book 1: The Lost Hero – Chapters One and Two! Really. Right Now. Today!

The Lost Hero

Rick Riordan said in his blog on June 1, 2010:

“Right now, there are only “locked” sample chapters from The Lost Hero. Bronze coin keychains, like the symbol above, were given out at BEA  (Book Expo America) with the pass code, and for the present, that’s the only way to unlock the chapters. If you weren’t at BEA, or can’t find someone who got the coin, don’t worry! In a few weeks, we’ll open the sample chapters for everyone.”

Well, guess what, you didn’t have to find someone with a keychain, that someone found you! Thanks to Joe who gave us this terrific bit of information in a comment a few days later…here is what Joe said: “if you go to camphalfblood.com the password is newhero you can read the first two chaptersโ€ฆ cant wait”.

I tried it, it worked. 47 pages worth! I couldn’t help it, I read the last sentence in the second chapter. I know, I know, bad habit, I shouldn’t have done that…but oh, wait until you read that last sentence! No! Don’t start there like I did! You’ll ruin it!

Thanks again to Joe! What a great way to start the summer.

The book comes out on October 12, 2010.

Now I’m going to go read the rest…

  1. I read the percy jackson series in like two weeks and have been dying since I read that 2 chapters. I can’t wait two weeks for it!

  2. And I think Rick Riordan got these names (Leo and Piper) from a show called Charmed. They are a couple. Just a thought though.

  3. @ Sarah Kate:
I know—I might literally explode waiting for the book! *stares off into space* Annabeth and Percy were just meant to be!

  4. ok I’m pretty sure Leo is a son of hephaestus because on a website it said (indirectly) that he’s immune to flames. So inventor, and immune to flames….God of forges much?

  5. does anyone know if there is a way to access the 3rd chapter? And also when in october does it come out?

  6. @Veronica Oh yes! Annabeth is DEFINATELY my favorite character! It’s so much fun to try and make different voices while reading the book! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. @(o: —-
I don’t think any of the main characters from the last series will be any of the 7 either.

  8. Did my last post go through? Let me post this in case it didn’t:
I just finished reading The Last Song, and the chapter titles were the name of whoevers perspective it was from. Not really with them narrating, but what they thought.
    Ex: Chapter1…..Jason
    Chapter 2….Piper
    Just a thought!

    @(o: —-
I know! I almost cried at the end of the 2nd chapter, when I realized it was Annabeth. She has been and always will be my fav character!

  9. @(o: —-
I know. I almost cried when I finished he 2nd chapter, with Annabeth in it and everything! Anyway, sis you notice how both chapteres are called Jason? Well, I just finished the last song, and the chapters were called the name of whoevers perspective that part of the story came from. Not necesarily narrated by them, just what they though.
    Ex: Ch. 1…..Jason
    Chapter 2…..Leo
Just a thought, tell me is that was confusing.

  10. Okay, I think that Jason is the son of a Greek god.
On the Heroes of Olympus symbol there’s a Greek letter. Omega, the last letter in the alphabet. Also, the name of the series is the Heroes of OLYMPUS. Olympus is 100% Greek. Also, Now I am almost 99% positive that Leo is the son of Hephaestus, because A: he is very, very handy with tools, and B: I did some research on Hephaestus and apparently the Roman equivalent is Vulcan, who is also the god of volcanoes and fire, also. Leo was immune to the mechanical dragon’s fire. Oh, the Greek Hephaestus god is great with fire and volcanoes, too.

  11. @(o: That would be cool! I hope we see him a lot too! But i also think that he should not be one of the 7 heroes because he was the main hero in the last books. Just a thought. ๐Ÿ™‚ I really do hope we see him a lot though! Can’t wait for the book to come out! *squeal***

  12. I’m so excited!!! On Rick Riordan’s blog, he said that Percy is going to have a very important role to play. That’s relieving. I was so worried that Percy wouldn’t be in it a lot. I hope he’s one of the main heroes.

  13. It would actually be better if Jason was in tartaus and was invented my some enemy of the gods so he wanted a new life and dunked himself in the leath river where memories were lost cus that is much more of a twist ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Ok like i think that it is most likely Jason is a son of zeus to, but if so then when did that happen? Like, I mean this dosnt sound to long after the 5th Percy Jackson book, and with the pact beetween the Big three and Zues being so busy fighting a war and all I just am curios to how that could be, but then again its not like Zeus hasnt broken the pact before so why not again? I dont know, just some thoughts.

  15. It’s really hard to say whether or not he’s the son of Zeus. Theres so many options! I guess well just have to wait and see.

  16. @Veronica
Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just trying to ask a question, but I got some smiley face instead. Sorry.
    What does:P mean?

  17. @Veronica
    Yeah, I actually think it’s Zeus, too…
but it’s still a possibility, I guess. I mean, on the Percy Jackson symbol, it has a trident, but it also has a lightning bolt, too. He’s not a son of Zeus.
    I don’t know. Just a thought…

  18. Well, the book is a continuation of the Percy Jackson series, so the lightning bolt could just be from The Lightning Thief. To show that the two series are attached. Maybe.

  19. Jason is officially a son of Jupiter/Zeus becaus on the website if you swipe over the coin with your mouse it has a lightning bolt on 1 side so its as good as the truth

  20. YAAAAAAYYY!!!!
Did you guys hear that there is going to be a sequel series to the 39 clues? It’s going to be Cahills vs. Vespers this time! The first book is scheduled to be released on April 11, 2011. That’s only 7 months!!! The first book is going to partially be written by Rick Riordan!!! I can’t wait. YAAAAAAYYY!!!! ( :

p.s. Sorry for posting so many comments.

  21. If Jason were Percy, how would he know all of the Roman names? Percy only knew Greek. The theory of Jason being Percy just doesn’t make sense. I think that it’s highly unlikely. There would have to be a very complicating plot for it to work at all.

  22. @Mat
That’s not true. The Big Three half bloods are considered the most powerful, but all of the children born of the first generation Greek gods are considered powerful, too. Just not as powerful as the Big Three ones. Like Annabeth, she wasn’t born of the Big Three, but she is still considered fairly powerful. Definitely more powerful than a demigod born of a very, very minor god.

  23. Acctually all of you that have read this have not been looking through carefully. Percy is on a quest and has not been found. Gaia only controls ground (Rock,Sand,Mud) and Uranus Controls the Sky. (Wind, air etc.) Uranus is blown to pieces and is not dead. but cannot use to powers so the wind gods are minor gods. That may have turned over to Kronos or worst scenario They are raising Uranus Not Kronos. But the all-mighty Uranus.

  24. @ (o
Yes, I agree that it would be confusing but, they said they are powerful and the big three are the only ones who are considered powerful for a half-blood.

  25. heyy!!!!!!!!!!!! i read the first 2 chapters of the lost hero and got mad when they wouldnt let me finish it!!! hahaha! so far my favorite character is leo . i feel so bad for annabeth becase percys gone & luke couldnt have taken him so im like really confused & i dont like to be confused. it hurts my head!!! yall i can not wait till october 12!! its not to far away only like 18 more days!!!! im soooooooooo excited :*)

  26. im back !!!! hehehe! well any way i was looking at all the comments and they are saying jason is percy but i dont think so. since annabeth had been looking for him and since she is a smart girl there would have to be a little bit of a simulate between jason and percy? and he cant be percy because PERCY CAN NOT CHEAT ON ANNABETH I DONT CARE IF HE IS IN ANOTHER LIFE & CANT REMEMBER ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. @Mat
I definitely don’t think there will be any other types of gods in the book. There may be an exception for Roman because they’re the same, just with different names, but most likely not the Egyptian and others. There is already a separate series on them. This is an add-on series to the Percy Jackson series, which is about Greek gods. If there were all these millions of different types of gods going on in the story it would get very confusing. I don’t think the author would want that.

  28. Has anyone even thought about the fact that all three of the half-bloods (Piper, Leo, Jason)are powerful ones meaning they can’t be the children of Hesphaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes, Ares, etc. and that Jason is probably the only one whose parents is one of the Big three maybe the other (might just be) a child of an Egyptian or Norse god (Loki, etc.) And the mistress is a mystery that could be anything suggested but personnaly I think that its probably Gaia because she controls nature and she sent WIND spirits.

  29. Everyone keeps on saying Jason is Percy. On Rick Riordan’s website he said he wanted some change and different characters. Even the password was a hint. NEW hero. It can’t be new if it’s the same.

  30. Apparently Jason has the same fatal flaw that Percy does. Personal loyalty towards his friends. He has a LOT of things in common with Percy. I’m not saying he is Percy, but I think he is either the son of Zeus, or the son of a very powerful god. Like how in the Percy Jackson series, everyone kept on saying how much alike Percy is to Thalia. She was the daughter of Zues.

  31. Like o: says its weird that Jason wouldent be able to tell Dylan was a ventus if he could see through the mist, but Percy even though he ushally could see through, couldnt always. So mabe Jason just couldnt see Dylan for who he was because Dylan had a particulary strong mist, Just an idea, but I would like to point out Jason instently disliked Dylan.

  32. omg!!! i read the first 2 chapters too and they were AWESOME!!! i can’t wait to read the rest!!!! thanks 4 the password!!!

  33. The prophecy might not be exactly what you think. In the Percy Jackson series Chiron kept on saying that most prophecies have double meanings. Like the time when the oracle said “The child of Athena…” and everyone thought it was Annabeth, but it ended up being Daedalus. Also, someone said that they can’t be roman demigods. Well, since Roman gods are the same as Greek gods, just with different names, than any child of a Greek named god would be the child of a Roman god. Percy is the son of Poseidon, but he is also the son of Neptune. Poseidon and Neptune are the same.

  34. cant wait everytime i think about this book i feel im gonna die if its not in my hands. do any of u know the exact date that the book is being released on?

i also wanted to add i think theres a huge chance that percy is jason but he noone knows it including himself. i was thinking that whoever annabeth was talking about when she went berserk turned percy into jason and disguised him with the mist or something but anyway enough guesses out of me. Anything could be happening there are so many different paths the story can take.

  35. @(o: :
Piper’s dad can’t be Apollo- remember, it mentioned her DAD has been missing/stated her dad was an indian. Otherwise, i’d totally agree:P

  36. @Veronica haha your fine. yeah, im glad you didnt think that… XD
@( o : Well, Percy couldn’t see, (well, for example) Mrs. Dodds because she was in teacher form. Percy could see through the mist but the Fury was in disguise. I think its the same thing with Jason. ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. On another website it said that Jason could see through the mist, but if he could wouldn’t he have seen that Dylan was a Ventus?

  38. Oooooh! Major type! I mean tto say “But ya, I don’t think that!”
Not “I don’t think what I think.” LOL.
