A Beginner’s Guide to Zombie Apocalypse Survival!

Zombie TakeoverZombie enthusiasts among teens ages 13-17 are invited to learn how they can prepare for the zombie apocalypse during the series, "A Beginner's Guide to Zombie Apocalypse Survival" throughout the fall at various Indianapolis Public Library locations.

The series will include an art workshop, movie showing, popular author appearances and other programs that promote this popular cultural theme.

Programs in the "A Beginner's Guide to Zombie Apocalypse Survival" series include:

"Create a Zombie Caricature"
To survive the attack, teens first need to know how to identify a zombie. Artists from Art With a Heart guide teens through the steps of identifying and drawing the unique features of the walking dead. Participants will leave with their very own zombie caricature drawing. Registration is required.

"Zombie Apocalypse Food Preparation"
Many teens may find yourselves barricaded from the zombie onslaught in abandoned shopping centers for weeks at a time. Expert chefs from Your Gourmet Girlfriends will teach how to make delicious snacks to keep them energized as they hold off the horde. Participants will receive tasty samples of everything they create. Registration is required.

"The Hunger Games" Movie Showing
The Hunger Games is a veritable how-to guide on surviving apocalyptic circumstances. Teens are invited to watch a showing of this film to steal survival tips and tricks from the ultimate survivor, Katniss Everdeen. Select branches will also host a Hunger Games costume contest!

"Dance the Thriller"
To escape a shuffling zombie, teens need to know how to dance away in style. They will exercise tjeor dance moves with expert character cosplayers, And Sewing is Half the Battle. Participants will learn the choreography to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Registration is required.

"Zombie Stage Makeup"
In order to escape the walking dead, teens may have to blend into the crowd. Teaching artists from the Indiana Repertory Theatre show how to camouflage oneself as a zombie by applying stage makeup. In this 90-minute session, participants use stage makeup products to create a basic zombie face that includes death-like highlights and shadowing, the effects of decaying flesh, and stage blood. All supplies will be provided, however it is advised that participants bring a black eye pencil if you can. Registration is required.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The stage makeup used in this workshop is manufactured by Ben Nye and Mehron, two of the leading stage makeup companies. Participants will also use latex products. "Author Talk and Signing with Ashfall Author Mike Mullin"
After teens survive the zombie apocalypse, they’ll will want to document their frightful experience. They’re invited to learn about the writing process from Mike Mullin, author of the critically acclaimed novel, Ashfall. A book signing will follow.
