To kick off the Library's 2013 Summer Reading Program, "Read Together, Right Now!", children, teens and families are invited for a theatrical recreation concert celebrating the greatest rock and roll band of all time, the Beatles! Take a trip back to 1964 with BritBeat's tribute to the Beatles, with mop tops, retro costumes, vintage instruments and harmonizing vocals. It's a musical, visual, multimedia and theatrical concert that authentically recreates the electrifying performances of the "Fab Four." This free concert will be held in the Clowes Auditorium at Central Library. Seating is limited. Free tickets will be available at 12 noon in the Learning Curve. |

Families are invited to join award-winning photographer and writer David FitzSimmons in exploring the amazing world of animals as described in his award-winning children's picture book, "Curious Critters," and found in his 24-image exhibit at Central Library on display through June 28. In addition, Silly Safaris will present live animals for children and families to ask questions about from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. At 2 p.m. in Learning Curve's Green Screen Theater, FitzSimmons will perform parts of his picture book. Children will shriek like hawks, hop like toads, and slither like snakes. They'll learn how butterflies drink, the ways mammals fly, and why frogs sing. The show will include puppets and take-home activities for all children. At 3 p.m. in the Atrium, FitzSimmons will show his unique animal photos and describe how he turned these mesmerizing portraits into his award-winning picture book. He'll discuss the techniques, challenges and purposes for photographing creatures against white backgrounds, as well as the process of bringing a book from idea to reality. |
