Junior Builders (30 minutes)

An interactive story that incorporates Legos, Duplos and Gears! Children listen to a story, follow instructions, and make contributions to a community build which relates to the story. The story time and community build is followed by time in which students build anything they feel, whether it be with a friend or group of friends.

Robot Circle (30 minutes)

A group activity introducing the Lego NXT Robots. Students discuss and compare the five senses to robots sensors. Students experience the basic concept of action-reaction by testing a simple program using the robots’ object and touch sensors.

Common Core Standards: English SL.K.1, SL.1.1, SL.2.1; Math K.G.1, 1.G.1, 2.G.1

Pleo Storytime (30 minutes)

A group storytime activity followed by playtime with Pleo the robotic dinosaur. Students listen, respond, and discuss story themes during the read aloud. Additionally, students experience the magic of Pleo the robotic dinosaur!

Common Core Standards: English SL.K.1, SL.1.1, SL.2.1

Lego Robots – WeDo (1 hour)

Students use Lego We-Do kits and software to build and program a Lego machine. The Learning Curve offers Lego education activities to provide students with the procedural skills and conceptual challenges they need to succeed at higher levels. This is a 1 hour activity.

Lego Robots – Introduction (30 minutes)

This hands-on acitivity uses Lego NXT robots to introduce the basics of computer programming. Students will create, observe, analyze, and improve logic based programming sequences to demonstrate their understanding of causal relationships.

Indiana Academic Standards: Math MA.3.6.1, MA.4.7.1, MA.5.7.1, MA.6.7.1

Lego Robots – Intermediate (1 hour)

This hands-on acitivity uses Lego NXT robots and Mindstorms software to introduce the basics of computer programming. Students will create, observe, analyze, and improve logic based programming sequences to demonstrate their understanding of causal relationships. This is a 1 hour activity.

Lego Robots – Advanced (1 hour)

Students build on their knowledge gained from the Lego Robots – Intermediate activity. In this experiential learning activity students use Lego NXT robots, Mindstorms software, and computer programming concepts to control a robot’s logic based sequences. This is a 1 hour activity.

The Learning Curve’s Preschool – 2nd grade activities combine reading, listening and speaking with new media tools to increase students’ fluency and comprehension.
