Why do I need to book a group visit?
Setting up your visit in advance will ensure the best possible activities specifically tailored to your needs. Need books pulled? Need to use certain technology, want to participate in a specific activity, use a particular database, or receive catalog instruction? Calling ahead ensures resources at your fingertips when you arrive. The Learning Curve recommends calling at least 2-weeks ahead to reserve time for your group.

Where is the Learning Curve?
The Learning Curve is on the 2nd Floor of the Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street. If you enter from 9th Street, take the escalator up one floor to the entrance of the Learning Curve. If entering from St. Clair Street, walk through the Cret Building and the Atrium to the entrance of the Learning Curve.

When can I bring my group?
Group visits are available:
Monday–Wednesday: 9:30am*–7pm
Thursday: 9:30am*–5pm
Friday: 9:30am*–4pm
Saturday: 9:30am–4pm
Sunday: 12:30pm–4pm
*Please note, Central Library opens at 10am Mon.-Weds. & Friday. The earliest time your group can be scheduled is 9:30am, in which case your group will be able to enter before opening hours. Please make sure and specify a time when booking your group!

Where can my group park?
If traveling by bus, bus parking is located on 9th Street, directly on the north side of the library. Take Meridian Street to 9th Street, and the bus parking spot will be on 9th Street directly behind the library’s Auditorium.

If traveling by car, parking is available in the library’s underground parking garage, accessible via Pennsylvania Street. Parking rates are located here.

How long can we stay?
Activities generally run anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, but your group is free to stay in the library as long as you want after the scheduled activities end.

Is there a cost for any activities?
All Learning Curve activities are completely free!

Do I need to bring anything for the activities?
Nope! The Learning Curve supplies all the needed laptops and technology. Bring yourself and any school supplies you might require for your visit (notebooks, textbooks, etc.).

I want to get library cards for my group…what do I do?
Library cards for your group are available if you are a teacher. To have the cards ready for the day of your visit, first download and print as many applications as needed here. Have your students take the forms home to be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian. 7 to 10 days prior to your visit, collect all of the completed forms and either bring them to a librarian at the Learning Curve, or fax them to 317-229-4508, with a cover sheet indicating your school name and day of visit.

Is there a place for us to eat lunch?
A space to eat lunch is generally available, but make sure to ask while scheduling your Group Visit.  Additionally, Central Library’s cafe (by Chef Dan’s Southern Comfort) offers delectable and affordable comestibles. Also, weather-permitting, the East Garden of Central Library is a great lunch spot!

When do I need a media release?
If you’d like to post your students’ photo-portraits on the Learning Curve blog download & print the Media Release forms here (or here in Spanish).

Do you provide reimbursement for school bus related costs?
We offer a first come, first served voucher for transportation costs up to $100 based on availability of funds. Be sure to check with the Learning Curve to determine eligibility.
