2013 Annual Report introduction given by Jackie Nytes, CEO, The Indianapolis Library
Welcome to the 2013 Annual Report
Visit any Indianapolis Public Library location and you'll see many people using traditional services - checking out bestsellers, researching reference books or reading in a quiet spot. Look more closely and you'll also notice many people using laptops, learning about eReaders or taking a computer class to increase their confidence and skills to compete in the workforce.
As we present our highlights and accomplishments from 2013, the Library finds itself sandwiched between layers of time. Individuals rely on us for traditional uses and yet view us as a gateway to the future of information delivery and community engagement. The theme of this year’s report reflects the citizen-led effort which began in 2013 to move the Library into the future with redefined roles and priorities. This effort aligns the Library’s resources, services and programming to meet important community needs in education, workforce readiness, neighborhood improvement and more. Once finalized, the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan will be the Library’s answer for expanding its outreach to serve diverse populations and giving the Library the flexibility to serve in areas of greatest need.
Through it all, we’ve heard your impassioned testimony on the importance of the Library in your lives. We’re confident that a new era of service will continue to underscore the Library’s relevance for many people, while providing a service model that is sustainable and adaptable for future possibilities.
On behalf of the Library and Library Foundation, we thank you for your support as clearly demonstrated by nearly four-and-a-half million patron visits in 2013.
