Dear Friend of the Library,
The Library's story in 2010 told of our continued commitment to customer-oriented service, underscored by the national recognition received for our service outcomes and financial accountability. The year also saw an extraordinary level of community involvement and support for the Library's mission, as dedicated citizens joined us in efforts toward achieving a sustainable future.
Although difficult but necessary decisions were made to reduce service hours and staffing levels, the Library is responding quickly to today's economic reality by defining a new model of service that will insure its viability in the years to come.
Statistically, we again surpassed 5 million patrons who visited the Library. Circulation approached 17 million items, and the number of Library cardholders increased to over 550,000 citizens. The vital role of the Library was further demonstrated by record computer usage for job search and job skills assistance, the high number of reference questions resolved by trained staff both live and online, and record visits to our web branch, where new and more convenient ways to use the Library and access information are being devised.
We are proud of our many 2010 accomplishments, which include the high level of participation in our Summer Reading Program, fascinating new online digital collections, and additions to our downloadable e-book and audiobook collections.
We invite you to continue your journey of discovery at IMCPL in 2011 as we fulfill the theme, "For Every Individual…A Public Library."
