ABOUT THE LIBRARY
IMCPL Offers Guides to Election 2008
During this presidential election year, the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library provides a number of resources to assist voters in making informed decisions.
With the October 6 voter registration deadline for the November 4 elections, patrons can visit their local IMCPL branch to obtain a voter registration form which must be returned to the county voter registration office or the Indiana Elections Division.
The Library's website features the Election Info Guide, a complete repository of election topics that can be accessed from the Guides & Resources link on the Library's web site. Once there, click on Government and Social Issues and find such informational links as All About Voting, Elections, Law, Local Government, Politics, and Statistics.
The Elections page alone is full of information on all things election. It features links to at least 20 non-partisan websites, such as the American Museum of the Moving Image's, Living Room Candidate, where one can view presidential campaign commercials from 1952 to the current election. Also, the link to FactCheck allows citizens to determine the factual accuracy of what is said by the political players in TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, news releases and other sources.
The Library's website also features the latest political books and materials from IMCPL's collection, as well as links to reliable online databases and local, state and federal election offices.
Throughout the campaign season, the Library is partnering with the League of Women Voters to provide the free Voter Education Programs at various IMCPL locations. The programs provide an overview on voter registration, Indiana's voter I.D. law, provisional and absentee balloting, and what to expect on Election Day.
For program times and locations, call 275-4022 or visit the Calendar of Events.
