ABOUT THE LIBRARY"This Is My Mexico" Art Winners AnnouncedThe Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and the Mexican Consulate Office in Indianapolis have announced winners in the 11th annual children's art contest, "This Is My Mexico." A total of 103 entries were received from children ages 7 – 11 who captured the culture and natural wonders of Mexico through drawn or painted art. The Wheeler Arts Community convened a panel of local artists to judge the works. Of 15 semi-finalists, three were selected as prize winners.First Place winner was Susana Peredo-Muńiz, an eight-year-old from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Carmel, Indiana, who received a prize of an X-Box 360 console. Her work was entitled, "Los Colores de mi Mexico," and it describes a typical Mexican dancer with a fan showing all the colors and joy of Mexicans. Second Place winner was Vladimir Ceja, a nine-year-old from Winchester Village Elementary School in southern Marion County, who received a prize of an iPod 4G Nano Blue. His work was entitled, "Fiesta en el pueblo," and it describes Sunday fiesta days in Coatepac, Veracruz. Third Place winner was Spencer Cristian Mendez, an eight-year-old from New Britton Elementary School in Fishers, Indiana, who received a certificate for free art classes at the Indianapolis Art Center. His work was entitled, "Huitzilopochtli: Dios del mundo subterrăneo," and it describes Huitzilopochtli: God of the Underworld. First and second place prizes were courtesy of National City Bank. The Library assisted young artists in creating their works with a series of workshops throughout the summer at various IMCPL locations. |
