ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Sign Up to Receive IMCPL's New Look Library Cards!
Marion County residents can commemorate the upcoming opening of the transformed Central Library as well as the mission of the Library as a center for learning by signing up for a new Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library card during National Library Card Signup Month in September.
Residents can replace their current IMCPL cards with either of two cards available at any Library branch or bookmobile.
The "Central to You" library card celebrates the re-opening of Central Library later this year and will be available for one year or while supplies last. The card features artwork of the new library's atrium arches and the steel and glass exterior of the new six-story addition.
The "Go to Grow" card underscores IMCPL's role as an essential information resource in support of lifelong learning. Its images depict a more stylized representation of the arches, or of individuals celebrating the joy of learning.
Individuals will receive new library card numbers with their new cards. Patrons, of course, may keep their current cards and card numbers.
For the first time, the new cards will have a key card option for an individual's key ring.
Cardholders enjoy many benefits, all of which are free. They can check out books, CDs, DVDs or other formatted materials from any library location, place holds on items through IMCPL's online catalog of materials, or access over 60 electronic databases from a home computer. Students in grades 4 - 12 can go online to receive "Live Homework Help" from qualified tutors in the areas of math, science, English and social studies.
Library cards are issued at any library location or bookmobile upon completion of a simple application and presentation of identification showing name and address. The applicant must be present. Parents must sign the application for children under the age of 18. Children under age 6 are only eligible for the "My First Library Card," which allows parents to check out age-appropriate materials for them.
Applications are available at any library location or can be printed out from the Library's website.
Out of county residents may still obtain an IMCPL card, valid for one year at a time, for a fee of $65 or by purchasing a Public Library Access Card from any public library in Indiana.
Individuals of all ages are invited to visit any IMCPL branch on Wednesday, September 5 from 4 - 7 p.m. for special Library Card Parties. In addition to being able to receive a new card, patrons can enjoy stories for children and families, refreshments and other special events.
Call or visit your local IMCPL branch for more information.
