The Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library have announced a special partnership through which the organizations will work together to promote reading.

The collaboration kicked off with "The Mane Event," a family reading celebration, on Wednesday, September 26 at the Pike Branch. It featured a storytime, games, Colts face-painting, opportunities to sign up for an IMCPL Library Card and special appearances by Colts players Matt Giordano and Josh Betts.

"The Mane Event" featuring Colts players will continue throughout the fall at other IMCPL locations: October 10 at the College Avenue Branch; Monday, November 26 at the East 38th Street Branch; and Monday, December 5 at the Franklin Road Branch.

In addition to these fun and educational library programs, children can become members of Blue's Book Club, allowing them to check out winning books from a list compiled for children of various age groups. As part of this initiative, children are encouraged to sign up for a free Library Card.

The partnership between the Colts and IMCPL demonstrates the importance of reading role models in fostering the love of reading among children.

Nicole Duncan, the Colts Executive Director of Community Relations stated, "Reading is such a significant foundation for learning. We hope that by partnering with the IMCPL, we can raise awareness for this important issue while encouraging families to spend fun and quality time together."

This is one of many reading initiatives presented by the Library each year to promote family reading. IMCPL's Director of Programming and Project Development, Chris Cairo, believes the Colts will provide special inspiration to these reading efforts.

"Children need various reading role models in their lives," Cairo stated. "Having the Colts participate as partners is wonderful because they can help children understand the importance of reading through their examples."
