IMCPL Board Rescinds Vote on Closing of Glendale Branch
The Building Committee of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Board of Trustees voted today to rescind its vote of last week to close the Glendale Branch due to the newly planned configuration of the Glendale Mall by Kite Realty Group.
Library Board President Louis Mahern congratulated the Building Committee in its efforts.
"The taxpayers of Marion County will realize a savings of over $200,000 as a result of the agreement that we have struck with the Kite organization," according to Mahern. "This is a big win for our patrons, the taxpayers and for the Kite redevelopment of Glendale. We owe special thanks to Mayor Peterson?s office which helped to facilitate the agreement."
The agreement calls for 23 percent reduction in what the Library will pay Kite over the remaining three years of its lease. The agreement does not include any changes in the mall?s physical configuration planned by Kite.
The Library Board also thanked the many loyal patrons of the Glendale Branch for their concern and involvement.
"With the issue now successfully settled," Mahern said, "the Board will return to its regularly scheduled meeting site at the Decatur Branch on January 18."
The Board had planned to move the meeting from the Decatur Branch to the Glendale Branch to allow greater patron attendance and participation.
The Library Board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Decatur Branch, 5301 Kentucky Avenue.
