A total of 58,007 children and families participated in the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library's 2006 Summer Reading Program, "Lost in a Book," a tropical island adventure into reading in which participants earned points to be exchanged for a variety of prizes as a reward for their reading activity. The total represented a 1% increase over 2005 participation. The program culminated in a celebration of reading achievement at Library Night at Victory Field on Tuesday, August 1, during which the winner of a dream "beach retreat" bedroom makeover, courtesy of Today's Bedroom One, was announced. Seven-year-old Hannah Nilsson, who participated in the Summer Reading Program at the Franklin Road Branch, received new furniture and surfer linens. Also announced were individual winners from each IMCPL branch who received bedroom reading lamps, courtesy of Today's Bedroom One. These winners, along with each branch's total Summer Reading Program participation, included: Brightwood Branch - 609 participants College Avenue Branch - 1,542 participants Decatur Branch - 2,174 participants East Thirty-Eighth Street Branch - 1,248 participants East Washington Branch - 802 participants Eagle Branch - 1,951 participants Flanner House Branch - 769 participants Fountain Square Branch - 658 participants Franklin Road Branch - 5,188 participants Glendale Branch - 4,498 participants Haughville Branch - 1,307 participants InfoZone at The Children's Museum - 582 participants Irvington Branch - 2,207 participants Lawrence Branch - 5,791 participants Nora Branch - 3,098 participants Pike Branch - 4,054 participants Shelby Branch - 1,288 participants Southport Branch - 4,836 participants Spades Park Branch - 522 participants Warren Branch - 3,244 participants Wayne Branch/Bookmobile - 2,841 participants at Wayne, 6,928 with Bookmobile (Outreach Services) West Indianapolis Branch - 823 participants Interim Central Library - 422 participants IMCPL's Summer Reading Program, which celebrated its 87th year, was sponsored by the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation.
