Plein Air - Paint Out Winners Announced
Two artists received Indianapolis Arts Council awards of $1,000 each for works created during the Plein Air - Paint Out event held Saturday, August 6 at Garfield Park and the Shelby Branch of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library.

Diane Overmyer of Wakarusa, Indiana

Diane Overmyer of Wakarusa, Indiana was cited for her painting which depicted a wrought iron fence surrounded by flowers and grass in Garfield Park. Overmyer counsels at-risk teens at The Family & Children's Center in Mishawaka and has taught art at the elementary school level and at Indiana University - South Bend's summer Mini-University. Overmyer donated her winning work to the Garfield Park Burello Family Center.
Ronald Mack of Indianapolis received the award for his large painting of the pagoda in Garfield Park. Mack, a former Eli Lilly and Company employee, teaches at the Southside Art League and has won numerous art awards from such events and organizations as the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana State Fair, the Swope Gallery and Indiana Heritage, Inc. Mack donated his winning painting to the Shelby Branch.
Plein Air - Paint Out attracted 50 artists who created works throughout Garfield Park while giving the public an opportunity to interact with them as they worked.
The event was co-sponsored by the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, Garfield Park, the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, the Indianapolis Arts Council and the Indiana Arts Commission.
