Talk With the CEO During “We Love Our Library” Tour!

January 31, 2013

Jackie NytesMarion County residents will have an opportunity to personally meet with Indianapolis Public Library CEO Jackie Nytes and express their concerns about library service during the CEO's "We Love Our Library" tour throughout February at all Indy Library locations.

Following a year in which strong citizen advocacy resulted in a restoration of library service hours, the visits by Nytes and the Library's new Director of Collection Management Deb Lambert will focus on gaining input on the Library's collection of books and materials, including CDs, DVDs and a growing number of digital offerings such as eBooks.

"It's extremely important as we strategically plan the Library's future that we talk with patrons to find out how they use the library, what works for them, and how services can be designed to better meet their needs," Nytes commented.

The nature of the Library's collection is changing with the publication of more eBooks and online reference tools. How quickly the collections at Indianapolis libraries shift in these new directions will depend on the community's priorities and use patterns. These meetings are a chance for the library leadership to gather thoughts about the future.

The Indy Library saw increases in library usage in 2012, largely the result the increase in hours beginning in May 2012 following a year-and-a-half of reduced hours due to budget cutbacks. Patron visits increased 8%, circulation 5.8%, computer use 7.9%, and new library cardholders 16.4%.

Nytes and Lambert will visit with groups and individuals at each branch location and Central Library between February 4 and March 14. Interested citizens are encouraged to check their local branch for dates and times, or visit the calendar section of the Library's website at www.indypl.org.
