Teen Read Week at Indy Library!

October 09, 2012

Teen Read WeekTeens are encouraged to read for fun and take advantage of reading in all its forms, including books, magazines, eBooks and audiobooks, at The Indianapolis Public Library during Teen Read Week October 14-20.

The Indianapolis Public Library will present a number of fun programs for highlighting the popular theme of the inevitable Zombie apocalypse. Free programs in the series, "A Beginner's Guide to Zombie Apocalypse Survival" include creating a zombie caricature, preparing food for the apocalypse, and applying zombie stage makeup.

Throughout the week teens are invited to visit participating Library branches to receive a Teen Read Week Crossword Puzzle, featuring monsters straight from the pages of terrifying books. They can complete the puzzle and turn it in for a Zombie Zack and certificate for a free order of Crazy Break from Little Caesar's® Pizza. They can also make a Zombie Awareness ribbon to show they’re prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

A highlight of the celebration will be a drawing for an autographed copy of Ashfall by Mike Mullin or a chance for the grand prize of an Amazon Kindle Fire with a gift card for an eBook edition of Ashfall. The Grand Prize drawing will be on November 10 at Central Library. Entries must be completed by October 20.

Begun in 1998, Teen Read Week is celebrated by libraries throughout the world with special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their local libraries for free reading materials. With so many options for entertainment, teens are reminded that it's important to spend time reading for pleasure. Research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce.
