Library to Host League of Women Voters Candidate Forum
August 29, 2011
The League of Women Voters of Indianapolis (LWV) will conduct an At-Large City County Council candidate forum on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m. at Central Library, in the Clowes Auditorium, 40 E. St. Clair Street.
Candidates from the two major parties as well as the Libertarian party have all been invited to participate.
The forum will be moderated by the LWV and will include a set of pre-determined questions as well as audience questions submitted on cards. The forum will be filmed by Channel 16 WCTY and rebroadcast before Election Day. The LWV anticipates hearing from the candidates on a wide range of issues everything from public transportation, library, and arts funding to local government reform and improved code enforcement strategies.
"The League of Women Voters of Indianapolis is committed to providing voter education opportunities whenever possible," stated board member and LWV spokesperson Erin Kelley. "We always encourage strong voter participation and want to help voters feel confident and knowledgeable when they enter the polls. Attending candidate forums like this one is one of the best ways to make an informed decision on Election Day."
Attendees not only will have the opportunity to hear and interact with candidates, but will also be able to meet with LWV members who will be on hand to register voters and share important voter service information such as how to comply with Indiana's Voter I.D. law. Available will be the LWV's recently updated Unigov Handbook: A Citizen's Guide to Local Government, as well as brochures offering practical tips on what to expect on Election Day.
