Calling All Photographers! "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Photo Exhibit at Central Library
April 08, 2011
In celebration of the April 14 release of the book, Stacks: A History of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library written by S.L. Berry with Mary Ellen Gadski, local professional and amateur photographers are invited to take and submit photos of Indianapolis' downtown Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street, for a special exhibit at Central Library during June and July 2011.
The exhibit, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," will feature photos of the Library's inner and outer architecture. Photographers of all ages are encouraged to visit Central Library during normal library hours between April 15 - May 15 to photograph inside the Library using handheld, self-contained equipment. The emphasis is on artistic perspective, beauty and/or architecture. Photos including library patrons are acceptable as long as Central Library is the featured element of the photo.
Stacks is a 272-page hardbound work commissioned by the Library Foundation that includes not only the story of IMCPL's evolution from its beginnings in 1873, but also its various architectural highlights. Central Library's Cret Building, which comprises the south portion of the current complex, was constructed of Indiana limestone and opened in 1917. Its architecture is classic Greek Doric style. The Cret Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Stacks is available for purchase for $25 through the Library Foundation at 275-4700.
Photo entries (one per person) for the "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" exhibit will be accepted at the Information Desk at Central Library from May 1 - 20. All entries, maximum size 8 x 10, must be the original photography of the entrant and taken within the past two years. Photos also must be mounted on mat board or foam core.
For other submission guidelines or questions about the exhibit call 275-4098.
