Presenting Sponsor of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s 2009 Summer Reading Program
Enhancing the reading skills of Marion County youth underscores the major support provided by the Comcast Foundation in its role as Presenting Sponsor of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s 2009 Summer Reading Program, Undercover Readers, which begins Monday, June 8.
As one of the most popular reading initiatives in the nation, the Library’s 90th annual Summer Reading Program is an incentive-based program that rewards children and their parents for their reading activity. This opportunity for children to experience the joy of reading and become lifelong readers would not be possible without the generous support of program sponsors such as the Comcast Foundation, which contributed $25,000 to the program.
Comcast is committed to making a difference in the communities where our customers and our employees live and work, said Scott Tenney, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Indianapolis Region. Through our support of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, we are proud to help open the door for thousands of young people to develop a love of reading, which will help them in school and later in life.
Studies universally have shown the link between reading at an early age and later academic achievement. The impact can also be traced to parental involvement in reading to children at younger ages. The Summer Reading Program rewards parents as well for such activity.
Established in June 1999, the Comcast Foundation has given more than $64 million to the highest-quality non-profit organizations in Comcast communities nationwide. By emphasizing involvement in literacy, volunteerism and youth leadership programs, the Comcast Foundation supports organizations and institutions that have proven to make a difference in their communities.
Registration for the 2009 Summer Reading Program continues through Saturday, August 1 at all IMCPL locations.
