All Indianapolis Public Library locations will be closed on Sunday, August 31 and Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day, except for the InfoZone which will be open each day from 10am - 5pm.


Current Employee Benefits

Public Employees' Retirement Fund (P.E.R.F.)

The Library participates in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund of Indiana. The Library contributes 3% on behalf of the employee to the Fund's annuity savings account. In addition, the Library contributes a percentage of the total gross earnings of those participating in the plan.

Group Life Insurance

A group life insurance policy is offered through American United Life Insurance Company. The amount of the insurance is one times an employee's annual salary or $15,000 whichever is greater. In addition, the Library offers other voluntary life insurance.

Medical Insurance

A group Anthem/Blue Cross-Blue Shield plan is available to all eligible staff members on a payroll deduction basis. Both single and family memberships are included. The Library pays a percentage or dollar amount of the premium depending on the plan chosen. A prorated amount is paid toward the premium of part-time staff members.

Dental Insurance

A group HRI (Health Resources Inc.) dental plan is available to all eligible staff members. Both single and family memberships are included. The Library pays a percentage or dollar amount of the premium depending on the plan chosen. A prorated amount is paid toward the premium of part-time staff members.

Vision Insurance

Group vision insurance is available on a voluntary basis through UnitedHealthcare Vision. The employee contributes 100% of the premium. The insurance is available for employees and their dependents (including spouse).

Short Term Disability Insurance

Group short-term disability insurance is available on a voluntary basis. The plan begins paying benefits on the 31st day of disability after all sick and vacation time has been exhausted and continues for 22 weeks. Benefits paid are 66 2/3% of the employee's salary (up to a maximum weekly benefit of $1,000).

Long-term Disability Insurance

Long-term disability insurance is available at no cost. The Library contributes 100% of the premium. The plan pays benefits after 6 months of disability and continues until the employee is able to return to work or is eligible to retire under Social Security. The benefits paid are 66 2/3% of the employee's salary up to a maximum monthly benefit of $5,500.

Flexible Benefit Plan

The Library offers a Section 125 Premium Only Flexible Benefit Plan that allows staff members to pay their portion of health, dental, and vision insurance premiums with pre-tax dollars.

Medical and Dependent Care Reimbursement Plan

The Library offers a Medical and Dependent Care Reimbursement Plan allowing employees to set aside money each month on a pre-tax basis to be used for medical expenses not reimbursed by health insurance (i.e. deductibles, coinsurance, etc.) and for qualified child care expenses (i.e. day care centers or baby-sitters).

Employee Assistance Plan (E.A.P.)

The Library offers an Employee Assistance Program, at no cost to employees, through Community Health Network. The goal of the EAP is to provide early intervention on personal problems to eliminate the need for more intensive/costly services and to maintain a healthy workforce.

Tax Sheltered Annuities

Tax Sheltered Annuities are available through American United Life Company on a payroll deduction basis.

Mutual Fund Investment Opportunities

Mutual Fund investments are available through Fidelity Investment Service on a payroll deduction basis.

Payroll Deposit

The Library offers payroll direct deposit. An employee may have a specified amount deposited to a savings account or have all or part of the check deposited to a checking account at a local bank.

Sick Time

Staff members will earn sick leave based on the number of hours paid. Regular hours will include sick time, annual leave, credited time, and holiday time. Earned sick leave not used may be accumulated and carried over from year to year.

Annual Leave

Annual leave (vacation time) is earned based on hours paid. Based on the pay grade, staff members earn annual leave at specified accrual rates. Regular hours will include sick time, annual leave, credited time, and holiday time. Annual leave may be accumulated up to maximum of 480 hours.

Holidays

New Year's Day, Martin King Jr.'s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance is available to employees pursing a Masters in Library Science (MLS). It includes 50% tuition reimbursement and the cost of books for 2 courses per semester with a limit of $2,000 annually for coursework completed.

Pre-Paid Legal and Identity Theft

Pre-paid legal and Identity theft services are available on a voluntary basis. The employee contributes 100% of the premium. The services are available for employees and their dependents (including spouse).
