Mission:
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library is the community's place to access essential information resources, technology, programs and services; foster reading and learning and promote the social, economic, recreational and lifelong learning interests of its diverse population.

Strategic Plan:
At its regular meeting on November 20, 2008, the IMCPL Board of Trustees formally adopted a new Strategic Plan for 2008 - 2014. Based on recommendations of a community-based Strategic Planning Committee, the plan address the Library's mission, its vision and goals.

Seven-member Board of Trustees serving 4-year terms:
2 appointed by the Indianapolis City County Council 
3 appointed by the Marion County Board of Commissioners;
2 appointed by IPS.

Summer Reading Program:
The 2010 Summer Reading Program attracted over 55,000 parents and children.
Awards:
The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service again listed IMCPL as a 4-star library based on the following criteria: library visits by patrons; circulation of materials; program attendance; and public Internet computer usage.
IMCPL received the Government Financial Officers Association certificate for meeting the highest standards of financial accountability.
The American Library Association awarded IMCPL the "Library of the Future" award in 2009 for its innovative learning environment for young people: The Learning Curve at Central Library.
